December 31st, 2009HAPPY NEW YEAR AND FAREWELL!

Thanks everyone for a great year at rawkandrowl.com! As you probably read, this will be the final post on the blog. I hope the posts here can remain helpful to you throughout 2010! Keep in mind that the site will go away in August, so save anything you want off of here.

I would also like to leave you with two great sources for similar information. The first is musformation.com which is updated daily (more often than Rawk&Rowl! ever was) and is a great pulse check on what’s new and what’s going on in the music industry, specifically for musicians. The second is getfreshusa.com which is an amazing blog filled with insights from someone who has been there trying to grow his band and get his music in front of more and more people. Check both of these out and I think you’ll find they are a suitable replacement for Rawk & Rowl!

Again, have a wonderful 2010!

Rob Cavallo
Senior VP of A&R/Staff Producer,
Reprise Records

Interviewed by Bud Scoppa

Rob Cavallo, the son of veteran manager Bob Cavallo (the Lovin’ Spoonful, Prince, Paula Abdul, Alanis Morissette), had labored in virtual obscurity in the A&R department of Warner Bros./Reprise Records until he signed Green Day and produced the multiplatinum Dookie. With that breakthrough success came a promotion and myriad new responsibilities.

December 15th, 2009Learn with Google Books

Most of Rawk & Rowl’s readers are looking for solid information on how to survive as an artist at some level of the music industry. Perhaps you should check out Google Books. Google Books has had a site at http://books.google.com for some time, which sometimes features full scans of books. A search for ‘music industry’ reveals that Google Books is a ready resource for those concerned with navigating the music industry. Or try searches on guitar amplifiers or even just punk and you’ll see why Google Books could be very, very useful. Look for “Limited Preview” for books with some pages scanned or “Full View” for books that are there in their entirety.

December 11th, 2009Militia Group $1 Sale

The Militia Group is selling a bunch of CDs for just $1! Get on it!

End Transmission is an up and coming band from Southern California who just released their first album, “Devour” on Missing Words Records. They also have an earlier EP out titled “Head Over Heels.” Both feature unmistakably hook-laden songwriting with Ozma-esque melodies and synth. Although the Ozma comparison is warranted–after all, Devour was co-produced by Ozma guitarist Jose Galvez and also features contributions by bassist Daniel Brummel and vocalist Ryan Slegr–End Transmission distinguish themselves handily by trimming back on the organ and classic rock riffage and focusing on the songs. Standout tracks include “Talking in Circles,” “89,” and “Right Side of the Bed.”
